HOUSTON -

Customers and employees rushed to help a 72-year-old woman after her purse was snatched in a grocery store parking lot.

According to investigators, the woman was loading her groceries into her car when she realized someone stole her purse out of the shopping cart.

When the woman screamed for help, customers and employees jumped into action.

A League City man and two H-E-B employees ran after the suspect who was trying to jump inside a getaway car. The customer was able to grab the man from behind and hold him until police arrived minutes.

The suspect was identified as Ray Patterson Jr.

Several witnesses provided a description of the getaway driver and the license plate on the car.

Investigators were able to track down the vehicle after a stolen credit card was used at a gas station. The driver, identified as Emmanuel Harris, was taken into custody not only for the robbery but for two outstanding warrants.

Friendswood officers were able to locate some of the victim's stolen property, including her driver's license, but were not able to recover the purse.

Emmanuel Harris, 24, of Texas City, and Ray Patterson Jr., 33, of League City, were charged with aggravated robbery. Harris' bond was set at $80,000 and Patterson's bond was set at $40,000.
