Pulled political ad released by Cruz's campaign features former adult film star

Actress from Houston featured in ad is Amy Lindsay

HOUSTON – In the middle of a heated presidential race for the White House, Texas Republican Sen. Ted Cruz is now at the center of a controversy.

It all surrounds a recent political ad released by Cruz's campaign.

It was quickly pulled when it was discovered one of the paid actors featured in the ad is a former adult film star.

"It happened that one of the actresses who was there had a more colorful film history than we were aware," Cruz said.

The actress is Amy Lindsay and happens to be from Houston.

Despite her background in adult films, Lindsay said she understands why the ad was pulled, but is also disappointed.

"I've actually gotten a lot of support from the right, from a lot of people that think the Ted Cruz campaign might have acted hastily," Lindsay said.

Cruz said Lindsay was hired following an open casting call and audition. He blames the company that recruited her for not doing a proper background check.

Cruz stands behind his decision to pull this one.

"We would not have cast her had we known of that history," Cruz said. "It was inadvertent in terms of the casting agency that we brought in to hire the actors, and given that we didn't know that we decided to pull it down."
