HOUSTON - The Hispanic Chamber of Commerce became the latest group to endorse Proposition One on Monday.
"At the end of the day, HERO is about discrimination," Dr. Laura Murillo, president and CEO of the Houston Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, said. "Houston will not tolerate discrimination. We should not, we cannot."
Opponents of Houston's equal rights ordinance were dealt a blow last week when Houston Texans owner Bob McNair rescinded his $10,000 donation to a group fighting the ordinance.
But Jared Woodfill with the Campaign for Houston said the controversy isn't hurting their efforts.
"Absolutely not," Woodfill said. "Bob McNair still made it clear he's opposed to the ordinance. It needs to be rewritten. We've got a lot of high-profile people including Lance Berkman and others who've taken a strong, principled stand."
Both sides of the debate are ramping up television ads in hopes of driving their voters to the polls Nov. 3
