HOUSTON – A pregnant woman has a warning for others after she says a man followed her then tried to get in her car at Cullen Park in west Houston.
She arrived at the park at 9:30 Sunday morning to walk her two dogs, but after a few minutes, the young mother-to-be, who asked that we not use her name, realized someone was behind her.
"As a runner sometimes you're like is that guy looking at me, is that guy being weird, is that person being weird and it's just in your head, but it wasn't," she said.
She says the man kept pace with her every step.
"I made sure at one point to even turn around and walk backwards and keep him in my sight because I wasn't going to let him tackle me and me land on my belly," she said. "I stood underneath a shade tree and he walked right up parallel to me and stood there with me so I was like OK, I've got to go back to my car."
She says the man didn't say a word and was still following her when she got to her car.
"I have the keys in between my fingers so some type of weapon and I have my phone in my other hand, I was just going to drop my dogs, turn around and fight," she said. "I loaded my dogs up as fast as I could, I jumped in my car, I threw my stuff in the seat and I locked the door."
But the man came even closer, stopping behind her car.
"I put it in reverse and backed up like I'm not afraid to run over you and he ran to the side of my car and started pulling on my passenger side handle," she said.
The woman says she blew her horn and sped off. She returned home where she filed a police report. But three hours later, she and her boyfriend returned to the park.
"There was no way this person was still gonna be there and sure enough he's still there," the boyfriend said.
They called 911 and the boyfriend quickly snapped pictures of the man who was now on a bicycle. Then the boyfriend says he saw the man follow another woman.
"I rolled my window down yelling and honking, got her attention, thank God," he said.
The boyfriend said the man on the bike began yelling at him.
"He's just like '(expletive) you' you can't do nothing to me," the boyfriend said.
The couple says since sharing their story on Facebook, they've heard from several people who say they have also been harassed by the man.
Houston police encourage anyone who has had an encounter with him to contact them and file a police report.
