Employee killed in CO2 leak at coffee company in east Houston

HOUSTON – An employee was killed in a gas leak at a coffee company in east Houston.

According to the Houston Fire Department, there was a CO2 leak at Atlantic Coffee Solutions in the 3900 block of Harrisburg Blvd around 9 a.m.

CO2 is used to decaffeinate coffee.

Alarms immediately sounded when the leak happened, and employees responded properly, but a man who was closest to the leak was affected, HFD said.

He was transported to the hospital in critical condition and later died.

Fire officials say there is no threat to the community or the environment at this time.
