Poll: Texas voters don't want Perry to run again

41% approve of Perry's job as governor

HOUSTON – Just hours after Gov. Rick Perry gave his State of the State address Monday, a new poll was released showing the majority of Texas voters don't want him to run for governor again, or seek another presidential bid.

The poll by Public Policy Polling shows 62 percent don't think he should run for reelection. That includes 39 percent of Republicans.

Eighty percent said he should stay out of the 2016 presidential race.

The poll also found Perry's approval rating in Texas to be 41 percent.

Republicans still approve of his work in Austin. Approximately 68 percent approve of the job he's done and say they would likely back him in hypothetical match-ups against top Democrats in the state.
