Police: Woman kidnapped at Walmart, then robbed, raped

HOUSTON – A local woman was abducted from a southeast Houston Walmart store and driven to another location where she was raped and robbed, according to police.

Police said the woman, 31, was abducted at gunpoint, then forced into her car by a man who stopped her in the parking lot.

It happened around one 1 a.m. Monday morning at the Walmart store on Rowlett and the Gulf Freeway in Southeast Houston.

Police said the armed attacker forced the woman to drive to another location where he raped and robbed her in her vehicle.

While it's unclear how she got away, a source told Local 2 that about two hours later, the victim drove herself to Memorial Hermann Hospital Southeast and called police.

"I live just two blocks from here," said Leticia Velasquez.

Velasquez admits it's great having a 24 hour Walmart close by so she can shop late at night.

"Diapers and wipes for my baby," said Velasquez.

Only now she'll think twice about venturing out to shop along after dark.

"You have to think about it now. You really have to think where you are going, what time and all that", shopper Mary Muguerza said.

"It scares you. Makes you not want to come out by yourself anymore", said Tiana Jaime, a shopper.

Police said they have a  vague description of the attacker.

It also unclear if Walmart's surveillance cameras captured the initial encounter between the victim and her attacker.

A Walmart spokesperson told Local 2 that the store will provide police with surveillance video in an effort to identify the kidnapper.
