Police: U of H student fights off would-be robber

Campus police issue security alert

HOUSTON – A would-be robber ended up running for safety after his intended victim fought back, according to authorities.

Police said the crime happened Friday on the University of Houston central campus. Investigators said a student was waiting for a bus near the campus Recreation and Wellness Center near Entrance 1.

The crook got out of a dark-colored truck nearby, walked up to the student and tried to take his iPhone from him, police said.

That's when, investigators said, the victim fought back and kicked the crook, who then ran away.

Investigators described the suspect as black, about five feet and eight inches tall and around 160 pounds. He had short hair and was wearing a white, short-sleeved t-shirt with black shorts and white shoes, police said.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police.
