A homeowner shot back at robbery suspects Tuesday afternoon after they forced him into a closet where he keeps his guns, according to police.
Houston police said three suspects kicked in the front door of a home in the 8100 block of Braeburn Valley Drive in southwest Houston around 2 p.m. Tuesday.
Police said the homeowner was sleeping upstairs when he heard the sound.
"The suspects assaulted him briefly and forced him into a closet, where he keeps his weapons,” said Houston police Sgt. Jerri Brandon. “He waited there for a short period of time."
Officials said the homeowner took one of the guns and crept out of the closet as the men were going through his things. He fire shots and at least one suspect fired back at him.
All three suspects ran out of the house, but one collapsed in the street, Local 2 learned.
"One suspect actually collapsed several homes down from the homeowner’s residence," said Sgt. Brandon.
Police said the suspect was transported to Ben Taub Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The homeowner was not injured.
The other two suspects drove away in an older model Chevy Tahoe, according to police. It is unclear whether they also have gunshot wounds.
Officials described all three suspects as Hispanic men in their early 20s.
