Police: Stranger danger was misunderstanding

SUGAR LAND, Texas – A stranger danger issued by Sugar Land police on Wednesday turned out to be a misunderstanding, investigators said.

Detectives said a 10-year-old boy was on Plantation Bend Drive near Dulles Avenue, walking to Lexington Creek Elementary School in Missouri City, when a man drove up, stopped and offered him a ride about 7:50 a.m. on Wednesday.

Police said the boy declined the offer and told them that the man reached out the passenger-side window and grabbed his shirt.

The boy ran home and told his father what happened. The father then called police.

Detectives said the driver surrendered to police on Wednesday afternoon. Investigators said the man lives next door to the boy and was taking his daughter to school when he offered to also take the boy.

"There is no evidence to indicate that an offense occurred," police spokesman Doug Adolph said. "The incident was a misunderstanding between neighbors."
