HOUSTON -

Police have called off the search for a suspect in a Katy home invasion.

Investigators say just after 7 p.m. Thursday, a man broke into a home on South Fry Road at Yorkway Drive.

Police said the family who lived there was home at the time, and when the father confronted the burglar, the suspect shot him.

"A suspect made forced entry. The homeowner confronted the suspect and he was shot twice,” said Sgt. Rico Castillo with the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.

Harris County Precinct 5 constables followed the gunman into the nearby shopping center.

From there, police conducted a door to door search of every business as they tried to find the suspect.

The father was taken to Ben Taub General Hospital in stable condition.
