Police searching for man who broke into dealership

SUGAR LAND, Texas – Sugar Land police are searching for a man broke into a Chevy dealership with a crowbar, according to police.

Surveillance video shows an older man and a younger man pull into Classic Chevrolet in the 13000 block of Southwest Freeway.

The man pulls several items from the trunk of the car then uses a crowbar to break into the dealership.

He's recorded sliding on one knee, peering into various offices.

"He's talking on the phone possibly someone was working with him trying to guide him to whatever it is he was looking for, possibly he was looking for computer equipment maybe money we just don't know at this point," said city of Sugar Land spokesperson Doug Adolph.

An off-duty officer working an extra security job at the dealership heard a noise inside the dealership around 10:30 a.m., police said.

The officer went inside to find a man holding a crowbar near the finance office, according to authorities.

When the officer asked the man to drop the crowbar, the man did so, took off running out the back door and jumped into a white four door vehicle with a sun roof that was driven by another person, officials said.

The officer searched the building and found the back door had been pried open and a backpack sitting near the finance office was filled with pry bars, gloves, a mallet, bolt cutters, cutting blades, and three pieces of paper that looked like math homework, according to authorities.

The accused burglar did not get away with anything, police said.

Anyone with information should call the Sugar Land Police Department at (281) 275-2540 or Fort Bend County Crime Stoppers at (281) 342-TIPS (8477).
