HOUSTON -

Liberty police officers are looking for the burglars responsible for stealing historic items from a library and research center.

Police say among the items taken were silver bowls, dishes, silverware, an Indian headband and swords.

On Tuesday, police released surveillance photos of the burglary at the Sam Houston Regional Library and Research Center which occurred late last week.

Opened in 1977, the library and research center sits on 114 acres behind a gated driveway. It consists of two restored homes, a church and the library.

The center's website says it features exhibits on a variety of Southeast Texas topics. Special collections include the Jean Houston Baldwin Collection of Sam Houston images, the largest known collection of photographs and illustrations of the Texas hero.

It's unknown if the burglar breached the gates, and police have not released the value of the items stolen, but they're working to locate this person of interest and find out why the items were taken.

Anyone with any information on this robbery is urged to call the Liberty Police Department at 936-336-5666.
