Police search for driver in deadly hit-and-run crash in southeast Houston

HOUSTON – A man was killed in a hit-and-run crash Wednesday on the Gulf Freeway in southeast Houston, police said.

A witness told investigators that the driver of a white Ford F-150 pickup tried to go around her on the Gulf Freeway at Easton Street, when it hit and killed a man who was trying to cross the road, police said.

The truck veered into the grass near the feeder road, according to investigators. The driver jumped out and ran, police said.

Investigators said there may have been other passengers in the truck who also ran away.

"We're actually looking for the driver of the pickup truck and possibly any passengers. It appears that there may be some passengers inside as well, so we're hoping someone will come forth and give us some information concerning the driver of this truck," Houston police Sgt. James Roque said.

The driver could face manslaughter charges.

Anyone with information in this case is urged to contact the HPD Hit and Run Unit at 713-247-4065 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
