HOUSTON – Deputies in Spring are looking for two thieves who robbed and pistol-whipped a Walmart associate Monday. Police said the robbers hit the manager over the head twice and took $30-35,000 from the store.
Investigators said the thieves watched from outside of the Walmart in the 100 block of East Louetta as the associate emptied cash from the registers into a shopping cart to put in a safe. Around 9 p.m., when the associate emptied the last register, the thieves put on ski masks, pulled out a gun and knocked the associate to the ground.
Police said they threatened witnesses before getting away with the shopping cart full of cash and loading it into a gold Dodge Caravan.
"I saw two black people parked right over there, taking a box of money and I said 'hey, you, stop it,'" a witness said.
The associate was taken to the hospital in stable condition. He is expected to be OK.
Police said the van the robbers drove away in a van that has front end damage.
Michael Powell shops at this Walmart quite often — even though his wife told him what happened Monday night — he still showed up to shop Tuesday afternoon.
"If I allow it to effect my peace of mind, I'd never come out of my house," Powell said.
Anyone with information about the crime is asked to call police.
