Police officer hurt while trying to stop burglars

Thieves broke into leasing office of apartment complex

HOUSTON – A police officer was hurt trying to catch two thieves who broke into the leasing office of a southwest Houston apartment complex.

Houston police said the two burglars broke into the Leawood Plaza Apartments on Beechnut Street near Leawood Boulevard about 1:45 a.m. on Friday..

Detectives said the thieves may have been targeting computers and other electronics.

After smashing the front window, the crooks were only inside for a few minutes because they set off the silent alarm in the process.

A Houston police officer in the area quickly showed up and investigators said he saw two men running away from the complex.

That officer because he was injured while running after the men. Investigators said he tripped over something and busted his lip.

The two burglars managed to get away. Descriptions of them have not been released.

It's unclear what, if anything, the burglars were able to steal.
