Police: La Porte dad flees arrest, leaves kids behind

A La Porte father was arrested and charged with evading police and child abandonment Wednesday.

Police said Johnny Trevino, Jr. and the mother of his two children had an argument and he left and went for a walk with the 1 and 2-year-olds.

Police had been called to their La Porte neighborhood for the domestic disturbance and when they arrived they found Trevino walking with the children.

At first investigators said he was cooperative but once officers realized Trevino was wanted on an outstanding warrant, they told him they'd have to arrest him. That's when they said the father of two took off running, leaving the toddlers on the street.

He was arrested a few blocks away.

"All I was worried about was the kids," said Desiree Carmone, the children's mother.

Carmone said the kids are back home and are safe.

Trevino is still in jail and appeared before a judge Wednesday afternoon.
