Police investigate deadly shooting in SE Houston

HOUSTON – Police are investigating the shooting death of a man at an apartment complex in southeast Houston. 

Officials responded to reports of the shooting around midnight at the Riviera Apartments at 16457 El Camino Real.

Police said a neighbor called and said a 27-year-old man knocked on the door. When the caller opened the door, the man collapsed due to a gunshot wound to the chest. 

Paramedics arrived and took the victim to Clear Lake Regional Hospital, where he died. 

Police said the victim was renting an apartment at the Riviera Apartment complex and several friends were inside when a group of unknown men showed up and attempted to rob them.

According to police, the victim fled the apartment during the robbery and returned afterward. A friend of the victim thought it was one of the robbers returning to the apartment, and shot him through the window, police said. 

Police detained multiple people for questioning.
