Police: Houston mom arrested after hitting crying baby in doctor's office

HOUSTON – A Houston mother was arrested after she hit her crying baby while visiting a doctor's office.

According to University of Texas police, 36-year-old Dorisella Johnyle Murphy had taken her 1-year-old son to a pediatrician's office in the UT Professional Building on Monday.

While inside the office, the infant started crying. When the infant would not quiet down, witnesses said Murphy hit him. A witness called police.

Police found the baby had sustained minor injuries and placed Murphy under arrest.

The Harris County District Attorney's Office accepted injury to a child charges.

Murphy's son was handed over to relatives and the case was referred to CPS for further investigation.

Murphy is being held in the Harris County Jail on a $5,000 bond.
