A local father is facing charges after police said he injured his young daughter on the side of a Pasadena road.
Officials said Miguel Diaz, 44, was driving with several children in the car on Christmas Day when he pulled over on the side of the road.
Pasadena police said Diaz got his 5-year-old daughter out of the car and started beating her.
Witnesses told police they saw Diaz banging the girl’s head on the concrete, so they pulled over to stop him.
"He was just saying in Spanish he was gonna kill her," said a witness, who asked to remain anonymous.
The girl was taken to the hospital, along with the other children who waited for a family member to pick them up.
In court, Diaz's alleged madness was laid out clearly in a few sentences; "They observed him grab her hair. And then take her to the ground, grab her head with both hands and slam it to the concrete several times."
Police said Diaz was highly intoxicated at the time of his arrest.
Diaz was charged with injury to child and bail was set at $30,000.
The girl is expected to survive.
