Police: Driver in stolen car leads high-speed chase

HOUSTON – A man lead deputies on a high-speed chase Friday afternoon in a car belonging to a driver who had been carjacked, detectives said.

Investigators said the crime started in 3200 block of Cypresswood in Spring, where a driver was putting air in his tires at a gas station.

"He came up behind me and said, 'Hey, turn around,' and then there was a gun in my face," said the victim, who asked to remain unidentified.

"He basically reached into my pocket and grabbed my keys," he said.

The victim said he was left standing alone in the parking lot while the suspect took off in his car.

A short time later, a deputy noticed a suspicious car pulling up to the Donoho Jewelry Store in The Woodlands. The deputy suspected the driver was casing the store and sent out a bulletin about the vehicle to other law enforcement officers in the area.

A Shenandoah police officer tried to stop the driver, but he took off, investigators said.

The chase reached speeds in excessive of 100 mph, detectives said.

The car chase ended on Spring Cypress Road near Interstate 45, police said. The driver bailed out and ran, investigators said.

Detectives found the man and took him into custody. His name has not been released.
