Chase ends in crash after man tries to sell stolen motorcycle to owner, police say

HOUSTON – A chase in southwest Houston Tuesday ended with a crash after a man tried to sell a stolen motorcycle back to its owner, police said.

A man found his missing motorcycle listed on Craigslist, arranged to buy it and then called police, investigators said.

Police showed up at around 4 a.m. to the arranged buy on at West Gray and Woodhead and tried to pull the seller over. The suspected thief took off near Richmond and Shepherd, police said.

After a short chase the thief hit a curb on Shepherd near U.S. 59 and crashed the bike.

He was taken to a hospital with serious injuries, police said.

Officers were able to recover the motorcycle but it was badly damaged.

Police said if a person finds a stolen item on online he or she should call police first and not arrange a meeting.
