HOUSTON -

A man is behind bars this morning after police discovered him sleeping behind the wheel in southwest Houston.

It happened around 1:30 a.m. Wednesday on Richmond Avenue at Dunvale Road.

According to the Houston Police Department, an officer saw the man passed out in the driver's seat with the engine running in a moving lane.

The officer then knocked on the window.

According to police, the man woke up, saw the officer and took off.

The officer the chased the man,  pursuing him westbound on Richmond Avenue to Wilcrest, then south on Wilcrest, then west on Stroud.

The man was not driving over the speed limit and obeyed all traffic laws during the chase, police said

After about 10 minutes, two other squad cars blocked the man's car off and he stopped.

According to HPD, he was taken downtown for a sobriety test, which he failed.

The man was then arrested and charged with DWI and felony evading.
