Records show that on June 8, the 96-year-old asked Arthur to open the safe in her apartment in order to get her checkbook so that she could pay her.

The following day, the woman opened the safe herself and noticed that several pieces of jewelry were missing, including a more ring worth more than $20,000 that the woman's husband had given her on their 25th wedding anniversary.

On Monday, police arrested Arthur at her apartment. She has been charged with theft.

Investigators said Arthur pawned everything but the wedding ring, and she turned it over to officers.

Detectives said they have recovered most of the jewelry from area pawn shops, however, they will have to hold on to the pieces as evidence.
