"Witnesses said there was a private party going on that the victim was attending along with some of her friends," said V.R. Mclean with the Houston Police Department.

Investigators said at some point, a fight broke out between some of the party-goers in the parking lot.

Alfonso Reyes said he peeked out his front door to see the panicked crowd scrambling for cover.

"All kinds of people just running everywhere," said Reyes. "They were all over the apartments, running in front of the streets. Some people were trying to hide on our porch."

While most escaped unharmed, police said a woman in her 20's was shot in the head and died in the parking lot.

Detectives said they don't have a description of the suspect. McLean said she hopes someone at the party knows something.

"We do have some information that witnesses have given that may potentially  prove to be good leads," said McLean.

If you know anything about this crime, you're asked to give police a call.
