Police: Burglars remove deadbolts, bars

HOUSTON – Houston police say they are searching for a group of burglars who removed the deadbolts from a door and burglar bars at a crime victim's home.

The burglars first had to climb through a small space between a family's back fence and car port to enter the property, authorities said.

Once over, they were able to get through another entrance and then through burglar bars covering the back door, police said.

The man and his wife were sound asleep upstairs.

According to the victim, the burglars used a screwdriver to take off deadbolts and let themselves inside the home to rob the homeowners.

The man has replaced one of his deadbolts with one that's attached with headless screws, which prevent a deadlock from being removed with a screwdriver or similar device.
