Police: Boyfriend shoots girlfriend in attempted murder suicide

HOUSTON – A woman is recovering after, police said, her boyfriend shot her in the head, then turned the gun on himself.

The shooting happened at a home on McCullum Will Briar around 2 a.m. Thursday.

Terry Spurs lives just a few blocks away. He said he heard several shots and rushed over to see what happened. He said he was shocked at the news, because he's lived in the area for 30 years, and he's never seen anything like this.

"I've never seen this," said Spurs. "It's really quiet over here, but there's a lot going on, but it's real quiet."

Investigators said the boyfriend and girlfriend got into some type of argument inside the home. At some point, officials said the girlfriend walked outside and the boyfriend followed, armed with a gun. Seconds later, he opened fire, shooting his girlfriend, then turning the gun on himself.

"It was a domestic argument," said Colin Howard with the Houston Police Department. "It was a situation where they were talking about separating, and unfortunately lead to this."

The woman was rushed to the hospital. Police said she suffered non-life threatening injuries and is expected to survive. The boyfriend died.
