HOUSTON - Police said surveillance cameras were rolling as a man tried to set fire to his ex-girlfriend's northwest Houston home.
Witnesses said the suspect walked up to the home armed with a gas can and started dumping the flammable liquid around the base of the home to try and set it on fire.
Surveillance taken from a neighbors home, shows the silhouette of man who appears to be setting a fire near the side of a home on Saratoga Drive.
The man who's camera recorded the suspected arsonist explained his fear when he realized how close the fire came to his home. "My main concern was my neighbors family and of course my family. Imagine how it would have been if the fire would have extended and the house would have caught on fire."
According to the homeowner whose house was targeted, he said his daughter had just broken up with her boyfriend and the boyfriend wanted revenge.
the fire didn't spread very quickly and was put out before doing much damage.
Court records indicate police arrested Jesus Aguinaga and charged him with arson. Neighbors credit the the surveillance video for helping police track down the suspect.
Police said Aguinaga is expected to be in court on Monday. He is currently being held in the Harris County Jail on a $10,000 bond.
