Police: Baytown homes hit in string of burglaries

BAYTOWN, Texas – A Baytown woman's home was hit by thieves, and police said it's the latest in a string of burglaries in the area.

Investigators said more than a dozen homes have been hit by the crooks in the Preston Place subdivision in Baytown in just over a week.

Lynne Bradley said she's very upset her home was broken into.

"All of these drawers were all hanging open," said Bradley. "They had gone through everything here."

Bradley said she had just arrived at work when a neighbor summoned her home because of a suspected break-in.

When she got home, she said she saw the crooks had kicked down the front door.

"The door that they just replaced was completely damaged. It was bent in half," said Bradley.

In just a 25-minute window, investigators said the burglars broke in, took two TVs, a computer, a camera and lawn equipment.

Neighbors said they're starting to keep watch on the streets.

Dionne Beuregard was the person who called Bradley to tell her about the burglary. She said she and other neighbors have documented about 20 burglaries since November 1st. They're worried about their homes and worried about their families.

"We're going into a holiday season. The children are out here," said Beuregard. "They come, they case the place and it's just gotten to be too much,"

Burglary victims said it took a deputy about four hours to respond to the crime.
