Police: Baytown girl, 12, attacked by dogs

Baytown police say dogs were both pit bull/labrador mix

BAYTOWN, Texas – Police say a 12-year-old girl was rushed to the hospital after she was attacked by two dogs.

According to Baytown police, the dogs were both pit bull/labrador mix.

The attack happened on St. Andrews Street in Baytown on Thursday around 5:00 p.m. when the girl went to visit a neighbor.

Police said the dogs attacked the girl when she reached in to open the front gate.  Investigators said the dogs were in the backyard and ran around and attacked her.

"She reached in to make contact there at the front door," said Detective Brian Parker. "Two dogs, both a pit and lab mix, came around and one of the dogs began to attack her, biting her in the arm and her side."

"She knows that the dogs are there and every time she comes over, she let's us know she stays outside the gate and we go put up the dogs for her," said a man who said he owns one of the dogs. "Today, I guess she felt very bold."

This time, the man said the girl did not call ahead.

Investigators said the residents were in the backyard. When they heard the attack, they ran around and freed the girl.

An air ambulance flew the girl to Memorial Hermann in the Texas Medical Center.

Animal control said they have the dogs until the investigation is complete.

No charges were filed immediately.
