Police ask for help finding suspects in metal theft investigation

HOUSTON – Houston police have released surveillance photos of two men wanted in at least three catalytic converter thefts since April in northwest and southeast Houston.

In the photos, one of the suspected thieves is wearing a one-piece overall suit and the other is wearing a hooded coat with shorts. They were seen with a maroon Toyota Tacoma pickup truck with a yellow light on the roof.

The thefts were reported at the following locations: 

Mobilease Auto Sales at 1100 Blalock about 3:40 a.m. on April 5  
Auto Nation at 12227 Gulf Freeway about 4:30 p.m. on May 6
Project C.U.R.E Houston at 8251 Kempwood about 9 a.m. on May 9

Police said in each instance the men forced their way into the businesses and used power tools to cut the catalytic converters out of pickup trucks. The men then placed the stolen items in the Tacoma and left the scene. In the May 9 theft, the victim reported a license plate stolen from his vehicle and at least $300 in toll road charge violations.
