Police arrest convicted sex offender in attempted assault in Alief

Police: Pedro Henriquez, 48, allegedly approached boys near schools

ALIEF, Texas – Police say a man has been arrested in connection with an attempted sexual assault, but they believe he may be connected to five separate cases and they're trying to determine if there are more.

The complaints began last December, in which teenage boys walking on streets near Alief high schools and middle schools reported being approached by a man driving a white pickup truck.

Investigators said that in each case, the man, identified by police as 48-year-old Pedro Henriquez, allegedly talked to the boys about sex and then asked them to get in his truck.

Henriquez was arrested by Alief ISD police on March 7 while allegedly trying to pick up a middle school boy on the street.

Recent graduate DeJean Harris and other students said they were surprised to hear this.

"In a way, I'm like 'Wow.' This area is supposed to be safe, but in reality it's not," said Harris.

Heriquez has been charged with one count of indecency with a child, and investigators think he may be connected to four similar incidents in the same area.

In 2006, Henriquez was convicted of enticing a child and sentenced to two years in prison.

Henriquez has been booked into the Harris County Jail, where he's being held without bond.

Police are trying to determine if other children came into contact with Henriquez. They're asking anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
