Police arrest 6 in connection to Walmart theft

PORTER, Texas – Six people in Porter were arrested Thursday, accused of a holiday theft ring.

"Right now we're looking at some felony theft charges, possibly some organized crime charges," said Chief Deputy Barry Welch with the Montgomery County Constable's Office.

According to authorities, the group stole more than $2,500 in merchandise from the Walmart on Highway 59 and FM 1314.

One of the six suspects faces an added charge of kidnapping for driving from the scene with a baby in the car, authorities said.

Investigators said a woman who knew the group was waiting in the car with the baby inside.

"When the suspects came out of the store, they were telling her to drive off and she didn't drive off. The employees from the Walmart were telling her to stay there," said Chief Welch.

The suspect was arrested in another nearby town a short time later. Deputies said they found the 6-month-old safe.

"It's unknown how this person, the suspect, got to the residence in Patton Village along with this infant," said Chief Welch.

An investigation is under way.
