Police: 4 children found alone in motel room

ROSENBERG, Texas – Police swarmed a Rosenberg motel Monday afternoon, taking a young mother to jail for allegedly leaving four of her six children alone.

Officials said 25-year-old Sarah Gonzalez, of Richmond, was charged her with abandoning and endangering a child.

"What if somebody bad would've noticed the kids are by themselves and something could've been really bad," said Rosa Fernandez, a Rosenberg resident.

People who live in and frequent the Woodland Inn and Suites on Avenue H told local 2 Gonzalez was staying in room 118 with a man and her children ages 3, 4, 8 and six months old.

The motel manager told Local 2 he checked them in about two weeks ago. Someone called police and when officers arrived on Monday they found four of the kids inside alone.

"During  the course of the investigation we found out that she had left the children alone in the room several times throughout the day," said Dallas Warren, Rosenberg Police Assistant Chief.

Gonzales was arrested on four felony counts of abandoning and endangering a child.

CPS was called and released the children to family members.

This motel has seen trouble involving children before. Officials said in October, police arrested a 32-year-old babysitter after a four-month-old baby died in her care in a different motel room.

Some folks said the area just isn't safe for children.
