Police: 1 dead, 4 injured in multi-vehicle wreck in Baytown

BAYTOWN, Texas – One person is dead and at four others injured in a multi-vehicle wreck in Baytown.

The 26-year-old driver who died is from Dayton. Police say he was weaving in and out of traffic at a high rate of speed when he lost control of his car.

The wreck was so bad, you could see from Sky 2 there was almost nothing left of one of the vehicles involved. The force of the impact was so tremendous, the man behind the wheel of the silver Pontiac did not survive.

The three-vehicle fatal crash, which included a FedEx truck, happened shortly before noon on Highway 146, right in front of an animal hospital. Dr. Bruce Meuth, a veterinarian, and his team of technicians raced outside to help three badly injured businessmen inside the other car.

"The three that we helped were all conscious, in a lot of pain. We were trying to keep them still. We were able to get some of their co-horts and their wives called to inform them of what was going on," said Dr. Bruce Meuth.

Police say the driver of the silver Pontiac was driving fast heading south on 146 when he lost control, crossed the center lane into oncoming traffic and was hit by the Lincoln.

The FedEx truck also traveling northbound tried to avoid both vehicles, but ended up crashing into the Lincoln. The three inside the Lincoln had multiple injuries and had to be taken by LifeFlight to the hospital.

The driver of the FedEx truck was transported to San Jacinto Hospital in Baytown by ambulance for a hurt leg.

The victims' identities are being withheld at this time until their families have been notified.
