Pockets of heavy rain could cause local flooding

Heavier rain expected west of Houston area

HOUSTON – It is going to be a rainy Sunday.  Minor flooding and street ponding are a concern with some of the heaviest showers.  Thunderstorms could produce strong gusts over 40 mph.

There is 60 percent chance of rain in Houston today.  There is a higher chance for the Western and Southern counties of the forecast area.

It is also going to be muggy today.  Daytime highs will be in the mid 80s.

Houston should be hitting a high of 85 degrees. Galveston will be around 84 degrees.

Monday will start off with a slight chance of showers, and then in the afternoon there will be a 30 percent chance of rain and thunderstorms.  Highs will be in the mid to upper 80s.

Tuesday will be partly sunny with just a 20 percent chance of rain.

By Wednesday, our probability of showers goes up because of a cold front nearing Southeast Texas.  The front should drop our temperatures Thursday into the upper 70s. Drier air follows behind the front.
