Several recent vicious pit bull attacks have council members in League City contemplating whether they should impose tougher rules on the owners of dangerous dogs.
One proposal has the city banning specific dog breeds.
The most recent attack happened in March at a League City apartment complex. A 2-year-old girl was attacked by a pit bull and police were forced to shoot the animal to free the child. She was taken to the hospital with severe injuries to her face and head.
In February of 2013, a Montgomery County woman was seriously hurt after she was attacked by a pit bull. The dog in that attack, Gus, was ordered to be euthanized but was saved by Cesar Milan, the popular dog whisperer on TV. Gus is now in California and is going through rehabilitation.
Another attack that caught council member’s attention happened in southeast Houston back in January. In this incident, a group of pit bulls killed one woman and attacked three others.
A spokesperson for League City said the discussion is based on what some of the other cities in the area are doing in regards to dangerous animals.
