Photographer makes ‘reality' of children's imaginary friends

Photographer, graphic artist help create kids' imaginary friends

SAN ANTONIO – A San Antonio photographer is taking a unique approach to family photos, offering a personalized image of a child with their imaginary friend.

Anna Angenend, the photographer behind "My Monster and Me," photographs each child, and works with graphic artist Amy Snyder to bring the characters to life.

"You want to treasure this part of their childhood, and make this keepsake, where they can be anything they want to be," Angenend said.  "They're in control of their mind, and their imaginations, so I want it to be a positive, and happy thing. Most of our monsters, we want them to be having fun with a child."

Angenend said she was inspired to create the photos, after her 3-year-old daughter often spoke about her interactions with an imaginary monster.

"The things that kids come up with, I couldn't even imagine myself as an adult. Just listening to them and where their imaginations take them, and then trying to put that all on one image, is super challenging and really fun," she said.
