Person of interest talks to HPD about game room shooting

Pedro De Pena killed at game room on Evergreen near Hemlock

HOUSTON – A security guard was shot and killed at a southeast Houston game room, and a person of interest is talking to police.

KPRC Local 2 was the only station to capture images of the person of interest turning himself in to authorities.

"He is a suspect … and in other game room robberies. Which ones, I'm not sure," community activist Quanell X said.

Local 2 is not identifying the suspect because he's 16 years old and he hasn't been charged.

The crime happened about 11 p.m. Saturday. One man walked into the game room on Evergreen near Hemlock. Security guard Pedro De Pena, 40, met him at the door and a scuffle happened outside. De Pena died after being shot in the head.

Police released surveillance video of the attack. A camera outside the game room showed two people running from the scene.

Sources said the boy panicked when he saw the video on television. He contacted Quanell X.

Witnesses told investigators there were as many as four people involved.

De Pena was laid to rest Thursday.
