Woman walking with daughter hit, killed by pickup

HOUSTON – A woman died Wednesday after she was hit by a truck in southwest Houston.

The little pink backpack and the blue Ford F-150 were all that were left at the scene in the 7000 block of Bissonnet, near the intersection of Beechnut.

According to Houston police, the woman, identified as Yesli Guevara, 23, was walking her 6-year-old daughter to either a bus stop or school when they were hit by a pickup.

It was dark, and the driver of the Ford F-150 was coming from the apartment complex across the street. She turned left into the westbound lane.

"I don't know if the child darted out in the street, and the mom went after the child, or if they both just ran across the street," Sgt. G.T. Hall said.

Police said Guevara died as a result of the crash. Her daughter suffered minor injuries.

Neighbors said they knew a terrible accident like this would one day happen.

"You always see them jetting across the street when you're driving down the street, because there's really no where to cross," Danielle Reed said.

As for the driver, police say she is not at fault, but she is being cited for not having a driver's license.
