Pediatrician who practiced in Houston facing child porn charges in New Mexico

HOUSTON – A pediatrician with ties to Houston went before a judge in New Mexico to face charges of possession and distribution of child pornography.

Dr. Juan Eduardo Torres-Santos, who is licensed in Texas and practiced in Houston, is accused of downloading three child pornography videos onto a computer at his Albuquerque home.

According to court papers, the pediatrician told investigators as part of his research into child sex victims, he's been looking up and downloading child pornography then watching the videos to medically diagnose his patients.

An online search of pediatricians in Houston turns up several entries that include his name at a Legacy Community Health Services clinic in Southwest Houston. Legacy confirmed his employment to Local 2.

A statement from Legacy says in part, "Legacy conducts thorough and official background checks on all of our employees prior to hiring. Based on court documents, there is no evidence or suspicion that any inappropriate activity occurred at Legacy. Dr. Juan Eduardo Torres Santos was employed with Legacy as a pediatrician for six months in 2013."

According to court papers, Torres-Santos is also licensed to practice medicine in Pennsylvania.
