Pedestrian hit, killed on Southwest Freeway in Upper Kirby area

HOUSTON – A pedestrian was hit by a car and killed Tuesday morning on Highway 59 in southwest Houston.

The crash was reported just before 6:30 a.m. and all southbound lanes of the Southwest Freeway were closed between Kirby and Buffalo Speedway in the Upper Kirby area.

Police said the man was walking on the freeway and was hit by a blue Ford Expedition. The man was pronounced dead at the scene. He has not been identified.

Lanes were reopened just before 8:30 a.m.

The cause of the crash is unclear.  

The driver of the Ford was questioned and released.
