Pedestrian dies after hit by car

Driver not expected to be charged

HOUSTON – A woman was fatally hit by a car in an area that does not have sidewalks, investigators said.

Houston police said Deborah Crump, 62, and her husband were walking to their car on South MacGregor Way near Calhoun Road about 9 p.m. on Wednesday, after they attended a party nearby.

Witnesses said the two were walking in the street because there are no sidewalks in the area and the street was lined with cars.

"She attempted to avoid them but ends up striking a female pedestrian ... ends up sending her airborne," said Sgt. I. Izaguirre.

Crump was rushed to Ben Taub Hospital, where she died.

Crump was a nurse at River Oaks Baptist School. A grief counselor is at the school to help students and staff deal with Crump's death.

According to investigators, the driver of the vehicle was not speeding or intoxicated. She is not expected to be charged.
