Pearland pup mutilated, left for dead

Investigators said whoever killed the little dog took the time to cut off the dog's spots

PEARLAND – Police in Pearland are investigating a sickening case of animal cruelty.

They are looking for the person who mutilated a family's dog and then left its body for all to see.

That small chihuahua-dachshund mix named Cookie, was found in a grassy field near the family's home.

"She was a family dog. She'd lay on the couch with the kids, sleeping with them. She was a part of the family," said owner Amy Lambright.

Two weeks ago, Lambright got a phone call from a friend telling her that a neighbor had found the dog's body.

There's still no sign of who killed the 2-year-old dog.

"I grew up in this neighborhood. I know all the neighbors pretty well. I wouldn't think that anyone would do this but you never know," said Lambright.

Investigators said whoever killed the little dog took the time to cut off the dog's spots.

They don't know where the dog was killed because there was no blood at the scene.

The said they are taking the case very seriously because they don't know what else the person responsible is capable of.

"It could be that stepping stone from thinking about something to going out and actually doing it. And then if he or she does this to a dog, what if they do this to a person? You just don't know," said Pearland Police Lt. Mo Lopez.

Pearland Police are asking anyone with information to come forward.

They've interviewed people in the neighborhood and canvassed other fields looking for clues but so far have few leads.

Meanwhile, Lambright says she's had to fib to her children.

"My oldest, I told her Cookie got ran over and she wasn't here anymore and she broke down. She was crying and all upset so I can't imagine telling her that someone did that," said Lambright.
