The suspect whose presence near a Pearland ISD elementary school caused a lockdown has been arrested.
C.J. Harris Elementary was locked down as a precaution around 8:30 a.m. Tuesday after a suspect was near the school, but not on school property, and assaulted someone. The school is located at 2314 Schleider Drive.
Pearland police were first notified of the suspect, later identified as 24-year-old Lavonnie Giron, who was involved in a disturbance at a school in Houston.
Pearland officers found Giron walking in the 2100 block of Pearland Parkway. Police said he gave them false information and then took off running while officers tried to take him into custody.
Pearland police said Giron was arrested around 12:15 p.m. in the 2900 block of Piccadilly Circus after another brief foot chase.
The lockdown at C.J. Harris was lifted around 10 a.m. because authorities were no longer searching in the area near the school.
Giron has been charged with two counts of evading arrest, one count of resisting arrest and one count of failure to identify. He was also found to have two outstanding warrants for his arrest.
