HOUSTON -

A man who police say fatally shot his girlfriend has killed himself after a SWAT standoff on Houston's south side.

Police say they received a call at around 2:30 p.m. Wednesday that a woman had been shot and that the shooter was barricaded inside a home in the 1500 block of Fellows.

A SWAT team reportedly went inside the house to cover a medical crew after they saw a woman's body lying on the ground. The SWAT team tried to make contact with the shooter, but were unsuccessful.

Officers then searched the house and that's when they found the alleged shooter's body in the back bedroom. He has been identified as 48-year-old Starling Caston IV.

There were other family members in the house when the woman, identified as Lisa Thorn, showed up. Deputies say Thorn was moving out of the residence she shared with Caston. That's when police say he got upset and shot Thorn, 47, multiple times, killing her.

Witnesses inside the home fled the residence and called police.

Upset family members at the scene tell Local 2 there was a history of domestic violence among the couple and that's why the woman was trying to leave her boyfriend.

The case remains under investigation.
