A man and woman are accused of leaving a dog in a dangerously hot car with no ventilation, according to Pasadena police.

John H. Lawrence, 40, and Sharon Ruth White, 55, were charged with cruelty to non-livestock animals.
Witnesses called police to a Walmart on Fairmont Park around 1 p.m. Thursday to report a dog locked in a car.

When police arrived, they found an older female pit bull in the extremely hot vehicle. It was 91 degrees outside, but the temperatures inside the car were 125 degrees on the dashboard and 103 degrees on the floorboard, police say.

When Lawrence came out, he allegedly said they were in the store for only five minutes, but witnesses disputed that, saying it was at least 30 minutes.

The dog was transported to a veterinarian to be checked out and was found to be OK.

Lawrence and White were both arrested and booked into the Harris County Jail.

They were each given a $1,500 bond.
