Pct. 4 officer returns to work after being seriously injured by suspected impaired driver last year

HOUSTON – Sgt. Jeremy Talbert returned to full duty Tuesday at the Harris County Precinct 4 Constable's Office.

He was seriously injured when he was hit by a suspected impaired driver during a traffic stop on Aug. 23.

His welcome back was filled with co-workers and a cake.

"I've seen the concern with everybody. Just not only from what I am told happened, since I don't remember any of it and everything that's happened since. everything that people have put forth and trying to help out and help me get through this," Talbert said.

Talbert was so seriously injured when he was hit and thrown 30-40 feet that he was flown by air ambulance to the hospital and rushed into surgery. He spent 10 months recovering from his injuries. He went through surgery after surgery and months of rehab.

"In Precinct 4, we got our officers backs. There are many law enforcement agencies back there that don't get their people back. We're blessed and we're going to seize the moment," Constable Mark Herman said.

Talbert, a seven-year veteran of the precinct, says he feels free once again. Now he has a message to anyone who considers drinking and driving.

"I can't say it enough that if you are high on drugs or you're on alcohol, just don't drive," Talbert said.
