FORT BEND COUNTY – It's National Public Safety Telecommunications week, an important time for law enforcement around the country as officers celebrate the men and women on the front lines of emergency response.

The Fort Bend County Sheriff's Office gave Local 2 a behind-the-scenes look inside its 911 Communications Center. That's where dispatchers take the calls that go through 911. The Sheriff's Office calls these dispatchers the "true" first responders, because they are the first people the community hears when they call 911.

In addition to this being National Public Safety Telecommunications week, April is also 911 Education Month.
