Parking ticket scheme warning

PEARLAND, Texas – A Pearland man is sending out a warning about a possible identity theft scheme.

Driss Benhaddou says he received a phone call from someone claiming to be an employee with the city of Houston.

Benhaddou says that person was trying to collect money for an unpaid parking ticket. The only problem, Benhaddou says he never received a parking ticket from the City of Houston.

"I think they were trying to get my info like birthday, social security number and other info so they could do identity theft," said Benhaddou.

A city spokesperson says they do call to collect money on unpaid parking tickets, but only if the citation is more than 90 days delinquent. That spokesperson went on to say you can call "311" to verify any unpaid debt with the city.
